Sector Lead - Stephanie Wierl, Be Fit for Life - Lethbridge
This sector is focused on promoting physical activity and active living.
Alberta is fortunate to have a strong partnership of active living organizations that collaborate to increase physical activity (Alberta Centre for Active Living, Alberta Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology(CSEP), Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification, Be Fit for Life Network and Ever Active Schools).
Current
Initiatives:
- Presented at the CS4L Summit (Integrating & Implementing PL Concepts into New or Existing Programming), great feedback from participants, about 50 in attendance. 94 were registered but we ended up being the last session on the last day and lots of people left early
- Great connecting with Lethbridge Sport Council on a CS4L grant delivery Move & Play workshops/demos to a variety of groups (sport, family center, Schizophrenia Society, Behaviours solutions, School Districts, Boys & Girls Club)
- Supported Alberta Health & Wellness Healthy U program and provided 8 activity cards (FMS focus with PL intro information). Cards will be delivered to 3000 sites across the Province (daycare, day home as well as after school programs)
- Beginning to expand our workshop offerings in terms of PL and FMS. Looking to create a Workshop Series for continued support for leaders
- Lethbridge-offering a new class geared towards parents and their children Parents get group fitness while children get FMS games).
Network:
- BFFL has 9 Centre's across the Province and offer a wide variety of programming to Albertan's focusing on healthy active living.
Advancing CS4L:
- Creation of the Move & Play Through Physical Literacy Resource and PL to a wide variety o community groups
- Various partners are moving to include CS4L principles into their programming
- BFFL network is offering FMS programming throughout their regions
- CS4L Youth Programming Task Force is moving to include CS4L principles into Youth Summer Camp programming
