This sector is easy to engage as the principles of LTAD are seamlessly integrated into the curriculum outcomes. School sport and even after school sport have aspects of fitness, movement skills and developming sport skills.
Alberta has focused resources on equiping the generalist teacher with a better understanding of fundamental movement skills.
Current Initiatives:
- 7 "Explore FMS Through Lead-Up Games"sessions at 9 Teacher's Conventions across the province
- Successfully developed, presented and recorded 3 Webinars featuring the three components of FMS: Stability Skills, Locomotor Skills and Object Manipulative Skills. To listen to these pre-recorded Webinars visit: http://www.everactive.org/webinars
- New grant opportunity from The Alberta Healthy School Community Wellness Fund. Deadline for submissions is Monday, March 12, 2012. Please feel free to share with your networks. More information is attached (might not be relevant for all).
- Resource Highlight - Teaching the Nuts and Bolts of Physical Education - 2nd Edition (Ages 5 to 12) - features 8 locomotor and 13 manipulative skills, www.humankinetics.com
- Explore FMS Through Lead-Up Gamessession accepted into the National PHE Canada Conference May 10-12, 2012 in Halifax.
