Recreation/Municipalities
Sector Leads: Rob Meckling - City of Red Deer and Leah Wirun - County of Strathcona
Public sector recreation and organized amateur sport share common interests and objectives. Both sectors are engaged in the delivery of opportunities for physical activity and fitness to Albertans. Both are major providers of programming and facilities used for sport and lifelong exercise.
Several initiatives have recently taken place in the recreation sector, some anticipating and some directly inspired by CS4L, we are beginning to bridge the gap between the Sport and Recreation sectors. This sector has already created a number of "promising practices" and is ripe for further innovative collaborations and partnership building.

Current Initiatives:
- LTAD implementation at the PSO level is becoming a very large issue and we need to become more proactive to provide leadership.
- Francophone sport association getting involved with the Youth Programming Task Group that is still developing resources, presentations, etc. CS4L Cochrane and the City of Red Deer received CS4L grant for projects.
- Had first steering committee meetings last week to develop a holistic literacy approach for the City of Red Deer playgrounds.
- Have been in contact with City of Edmonton (Rene) who is eager to be involved with the CS4L group/movement with Cochrane, Red Deer etc.
- ARPA's Community Sport Development Task Group will need to be reprofiled as ARPA is in a bit of a restructure. ARPA Board needs to determine status/intent of the group - Lisa Tink is new staff for this group. A March meeting is tentatively planned to discuss/strategize about this group in the near future.
- Leah - Parent Education side of things is the real need and trying to best equip program staff to deal with parents.
Network:
- ARPA, Municipalities
- Multi purpose recreation facilities
- Sport councils and post secondary institutions
Advancing CS4L:
- Parent advocacy
- Utilizing built and unbuilt space effectively
- Partnering recreation with sport
- Focus on active start and FUNdamentals
