What is CS4L

Kids and ExerciseCanadian Sport for Life (CS4L) is a national movement promoting healthy growth and development through good sport, so people can enjoy a lifetime of physical activity and excel in sport.

We are committed to providing lifelong physical activity opportunities for Albertans, which we encourage through coordination with other sectors and partners at the provincial level.

We believe in promoting physical literacy, which emphasizes fundamental sport and movement skills for children 12 years of age and under. Physical literacy established in childhood will pave the way for a lifetime of involvement in sport and physical activity.

Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD)

The need for an athlete or participant development model arises in part from the declining international performances of Canadian athletes in some sports but more importantly LTAD has become a vehicle for change, to address the declining participation in recreation, sport and physical activity.

LTAD is a framework that recognizes the distinct stages of physical, mental, cognitive and emotional development in participants in sport.

The 7 Stages of LTAD

1. Active Start
2. FUNdamentals
3. Learn To Train
4. Train To Train
5. Train To Compete
6. Train To Win
7. Active For Life
